آیا متعادل کردن یعنی مطمئن شدن از این که هر بخش از زندگی،مثل کیکی که به چند قسمت تقسیم میشود به طور متعادل و مساوی تقسیم شده است؟ آیا شامل صد در صد زندگی و ارزش گذاری برای هر کدام از قسمت های زندگی بر اساس اهمیت آنها میشود؟ برای نمونه 50 درصد برای کار، 30 درصد برای بچه ها و درصدهای دیگر برای غیره. آیا با در نظر گرفتن 24 ساعتی که در شبانه روز داریم تصمیم گیری میکنید که چه کاری چقدر زمان لازم دارد؟
باید بگوییم هیچ کدام از این تعریف ها مفهوم متعادل کردن رل نمی رساند. توصیف متعادل کردن از نظر هر کسی منحصر به فرد و انفرادی است و حتی می تواند شامل دقت فرد به صداهای ریزی باشد که از شم درونی ریشه میگیرد. وقتی گرفتار وضع ناخوشایند ذهنی یا فیزیکی هستید از خودتان بپرسیداحساستان چه پیامی برای شما دارد.آیا به معنای این است که باید بیشتر بخوابید؟ آیا قرار است تصمیم مهمی بگیرید که از آن فرار میکنید؟آیا وقتی باید صبح زود برای ورزش بیدار شوید، تا دیر وقت بیدار می مانید و تلویزیون تماشا میکنید؟ در هر حال هر احساسی داشته باشید جواب آن به خود آن احساس بستگی دارد. فقط با آرامش فکر کنید تا به جواب برسید. با خوردن یک بطری شراب یا یک جعبه شیرینی نمیتوانید از این احساس ها فرار کنید یا جلوی آنها را بگیرید. ما آزادیم هر لحظه بخواهیم هر راهی را که ترجیح میدهیم انتخاب کنیم. انتخابی متفاوت از آنچه دیروز و یا حتی 5 دقیقه پیش داشته ایم. به جای گرفتار شدن در سیر الگوهای قدیمی و حرکت در مسیر یک راهنمای خودکار، تکانی به خودتان بدهید، دقت کنید. همین حالا کاری کنید که بتوانید احساس آرامش و راحتی داشته باشید، بر خودتان مسلط شوید و بنابر این به تعادل برسید.
تعریف من از تعادل چیست؟ فکر میکنم بهترین توصیف، استعاره ای از یک ژیمناست روی خرک تعادل باشد: آرام، تحت کنترل، متمرکز و با اعتماد به نفس. هماهنگ کردن خود با تکان های کوچک یا قدم های غلط ، یاد گرفتن از اشتباه ها و تمرین کردن و باز تمرین کردن، تماشای حرکت های تعدلی ژیمناست های ماهر، گفتگو با کسانی که در برقراری تعادل در زندگی تجربه ی بیشتری دارند، خواندن مطالبی در ارتباط با تکنیک های مربوط به تعادل در رشته ی مورد بحث و انجام آنها و در نهایت افتادن و دوباره پریدن روی خرک تعادل.
