منظور از ساختار عاطفی خانواده، نحوه ی ارتباط و طرز برخورد افراد یک خانواده با هم است. نظر افراد خانواده نسبت به هم، احساسات و علاقه آنها به یکدیگر و چگونگی دخالت آنها در کارهای هم و همکاری یا رقابت آنها با یکدیگر نحوه ی ارتباط ایشان را نشان می دهد. رابطه اعضای یک خانواده ممکن است به سه صورت ظاهر گردد:

1- دموکراتیک یا آزادمنشانه 2-بی قید و بند و بی کنترلی 3- دیکتاتوری یا مستبدانه

آزادمنشی، بی قید و بندی و دیکتاتوری از یک جهت نحوه ی ارتباط اعضای خانواده را مشخص می سازد و از جهت دیگر در طرز ارتباط آنها با هم تاثیر می گذارد. طرز برخورد افراد یک خانواده با هم، در پرورش کودکان و رفتار آنها تاثیر بسیار شدیددارد. اینک به ذکر ویژگی های هر یک از این اشکال و تاثیر آنها در رفتار بچه ها می پردازیم:

1- خانواده با ساختار آزاد منشانه:

منظور از آن، در اینجا عاقلانه ترین و انسانی ترین راه زندگی است. در خانواده ای که دموکراسی حاکم بر روابط اعضای آن باشد خصوصیات زیر مشاهده می گردد:

در این خانواده همه ی افراد به تناسب موقعیت و امکانات خود حق دخالت در اداره امور خانه و اظهار نظر درباره ی مسایل مختلف را دارند. هر یک از اعضای خانواده حق دارد درباره ی کارهای خانه، در انتخاب هدفهای زندگی خانوادگی، در هزینه های خانه و طرز زندگی افراد اظهار نظر کنند. حق هر یک از اعضاء با مسئولیت همراه است. همانطور که اعضای خانواده حق دخالت در کارهای خانه را دارند باید تقسیم کار به عمل آید و هر یک به تناسب امکان خود مسئولیت انجام کارها را به عهده بگیرند و در استفاده از حق و مسئولیت عاقلانه رفتار نمایند. در این خانواده اصل بر این است که بچه و بزرگ در مسایل مربوط به خود صلاحیت اظهار نظر دارند و در تصمیماتی که مربوط به کار آنها است و در وضع آنها تاثیر میکند، باید شرکت داشته باشند. خصوصیات دیگر این خانواده مربوط به کار آنها است. در این خانواده پیروی از روش عقلانی پایه و بنیان کار را تشکیل میدهد. تقسیم درآمد، تعیین مخارج، گردش و تفریح، ارتباط پدر و مادر با بچه ها و ارتباط بچه ها با هم، همه باید از روی سنجش و خرد صورت گیرد. بزرگترین ویژگی این خانواده احترامی است که اعضای خانواده نسبت به یکدیگر روا می دارند. به طور خلاصه می توان اساس کار این خانواده را به ترتیب زیر بیان نمود:

_ تمام افراد خانواده قابل احترام هستند.

_ اعضای خانواده صلاحیت اظهار نظر درباره ی مشکلات مربوط به خود را دارند.

_ همه ی افراد خانواده حق دارند در تصمیمیاتی که درباره ی آنها گرفته می شود شرکت کنند و در عین حال مسئولیت دارند که در اخذ تصمیم و انجام وظایف خود عاقلانه عمل کنند.

_ روش عقلانی در کلیه ی شئون زندگی این خانواده نفوذ دارد.

_ همکاری، اساس زندگی و فعالیت اعضای خانواده را تشکیل می دهد.

2- خانواده با ساختار بی قید و بند:

وقتی شعار کسی را با کسی کاری نباشدحاکم بر اعضای خانواده است نوع کار و فعالیت افراد با آنچه در صورت اول جریان داشت فرق می کند در اینجا به اصطلاح آزادی حکمفرما است. دانستنی است بین آزادی و ول بودن و بین سخت گیری و کنترل تفاوت وجود دارد. منظئر از آزادی چنانچه معمول می باشد این است که، هر کس بتواند هر کاری را که میل دراد انجام دهد و دیگری حق دخالت در کار او را نداشته باشد. در خانواده ای که آزادی به این معنی حاکم بر اعضاء است و هیچ یک از تعضای خانواده در کار دیگری دخالت ندارند، خواسته ها، حاکم بر اعمال افراد است و هر فردی مطابق دلخواه خود عمل می کند. کمتر دیده شده که در میان افراد مختلفی که در یک جا زندگی می کنند و در مسیرهای گوناگون قرار دارند، با یکدیگر برخوردی وجود نداشته باشند. یکی میل دارد آواز بخواند، دیگری میل دارد بخوابد،یکی می خواهد در ساعت معین غذا بخورد، در صورتی که دیگری در این ساعت میل دارد به گردش برود و… در نتیجه هرج و مرج و بی نظمی حاکم بر روابط اعضای خانواده می شود و زندگی برای آنها مشکل خواهد شد. افرادی که از تمایلات خود پیروی می نمایند، غالبا در عالم خیال به سر می برند و از برخورد با واقعیت های زندگی دوری می کنند.این دسته نه تنها مصالح و منافعجمعی را که در آن زندگی می کنند، از نظر دور می دارند، بلکه متوجه مصالح و منافع خود نیز نیستند. علاوه بر اینکه زندگی اعضای خانواده با هرج و مرج و بی نظمی همراه خواهد گشت.این افراد احساس مسئولیت نمی کنند. قادر به زندگی اجتماعی نیستند، نمی توانند با دیگران به سر برند و اغلب با شکست روبرو می شوند. همین خصوصیات در رفتار بچه هایی که در اینگونه خانواده ها پرورش یافته اند، مشاهده می گردد. دانستنی است که بیشتر بزهکاران و افراد ضداجتماعی مربوط به چنین خانواده هایی می باشند که بدترین ساختار خانوادگی است.

3- خانواده با ساختار دیکتاتوری:

خانواده ای که تابع اصول دیکتاتوری است، معمولا رشد بچه را محدود می سازد. در این خانواده یک نفر حاکم بر اعمال و رفتار دیگران است. این فرد غالبا پدر است و گاهی هم مادر نقش یک دیکتاتور را در خانه اجرا می کند. گاهی هم در اثر نفوذ دیکتاتوری والدین، خواهران و برادران بزرگتر نیز نسبت به کوچکترها در خانه با دیکتاتوری رفتار می کنند. در چنین خانواده ای فقط دیکتاتور تصمیم می گیرد، هدف تعیین می کند و راه نشان می دهد و وظیفه افراد را مشخص می سازد، امور زندگی را ترتیب می دهد، همه باید مطابق میل او رفتار کنند، او فقط حق اظهار نظر دارد و دستور او بدون چون و چرا باید از طرف دیگران اجرا شود، برنامه ی کار افراد را دیکتاتور معین می کند و در هر کاری که دیگران انجام می دهند دخالت می نماید. تنها دیکتاتور از استقلال برخوردار است. ارزش کار دیگران به وسیله دیکتاتور تعیین می شود. آنچه را که خوب دانست خوب است و آنچه را که به نظر او بد جلوه کند بد تلقی می شود. پدر و مادر دیکتاتور در کارهای خصوصی اعضای خانواده دخالت می کنند و کار و تحصیل و ازدواج و حتی وقت گردش و استراحت و خواب افراد را معین می سازند. او می تواند از دیگران انتقاد کند، ولی آنچه خود او انجام می دهد، بدون چون و چرا باید مورد تایید دیگران واقع شود. مصالح خانواده و اعضای آن را فقط او تشخیص می دهد. و دیگران باید نظر او را در این مورد قبول کنند. قبل از اینکه به بررسی تاثیر این وضع در رفتار بچه ی این خانواده بپردازیم، باید ببینیم اشکال این نحوه ی ارتباط در چیست. در محیط دیکتاتوری ترس و وحشت بر افراد غلبه دارد. شخصیت و خواستها و نیازهای کودکان به هیچ وجه مورد توجه نیست. نیازهای بنیادی بچه در خانواده ای که دیکتاتوری برقرار است تامین نمی شود.از محبت عملی خبری نیست. بچه مانند دیگران در مقابل دیکتاتور شخصیتی ندارد و به عنوان یک عضو قابل احترام با او رفتار نمی شود. بچه در چنین خانواده ای احساس امنیت نمی کند و وضع او همیشه متزلزل است. هدف انجام کارها را نمی داند و جرات نمی کند، دلیل آنها را بپرسد. اجرای تمایلات دیکتاتور و پیروی از فرمانهای او حافظ نظم و انضباط در خانه است. چنانچه گفته شد بچه حق بحث و اظهار نظر ندارد و باید کورکورانه آنچه را که دیکتاتور تعیین میکند، انجام دهد. حق ندارد، در امر مربوط به خود نیز باید رعایت دستورهای پدر و مادر دیکتاتور بنماید. از ترس تنبیه باید از انجام کارهایی خودداری کند. بدون اینکه بداند چرا نباید اینگونه کارها را انجام دهد. بچه هایی که در محیط دیکتاتوری پرورش می یابند در ظاهر حالت تسلیم، آرامش، سازگاری و اطاعت از خود نشان می دهند اما در واقع دچار هیجان و اضطراب هستند. این بچه ها اغلب در مقابل دیگران، حالت دشمنی به خود می گیرند. به بچه های همسن یا کوچکتر از خود آزار می رسانند. معمولا چون افکار و عقاید خاصی را بدون چون و چرا پذیرفته اند، افرادی متعصب بار می آیند.
