تعاریف کمال گرایی 

درباره اینکه کمال گرایی چیست و آیا یک خصوصیت خوب یا بد محسوب می شود، بین درمانجویان، جمعیت عمومی و افراد متخصص در حوزه های مختلف، عقاید بسیار متفاوتی وجود دارد. لغت نامه آنلاین آکسفورد کمال گرایی را بدین صورت تعریف می کند: «امتناع از پذیرفتن هر معیاری که کمتر از حد كمال باشد،به عنوان یک تعریف اولیه روانشناختی، کمال گرایی را به صورت: «واداشتن خود با دیگران به عملکردی با کیفیت تر از چیزی که در هر موقعیت مورد نیاز است تعریف کرده اند. هر دو تعریف، تعاریفی تک بعدی محسوب می شوند. طی سال های گذشته تعاریف تک۔ بعدی دیگری نیز پیشنهاد شده اند.

در مقابل تعریفهای تک بعدی که مرور شد، محققان دیگری پیشنهاد کرده اند که کمال گرایی یک سازه چندبعدی است. با این وجود در مورد تعداد ابعاد آن و اینکه کدام ابعاد نقش محوری دارند، اختلاف نظرهای گسترده ای وجود دارد. در نمونه از بانفوذترین مدلهای ابعادی عبارتند  از  مدل هویت و فلت (۱۹۹۱) و مدل فراست، مارتین، لامارت و روزنبلیت (۱۹۹۰). در ادامه هم دو مدل و رویکردهای چندبعدی دیگری نیز توصیف شده اند. آشنایی با تعاریف  متفاوت کمال گرایی چارچوبی فراهم میکند که به وسیله آن شکل های متفاوتی از کمال گرایی که رخ می دهند و نیازمند مداخله اند  بهتر مورد تشخیص و ارزیابی  قرار گیرند.

مدل چندبعدی هویت و فلت

هویت و فلت (۱۹۹۱)، کمال گرایی را در سه بعد تعریف کردند:

1- كمال گرایی معطوف به خود با خودمدار

2-  كمال گرایی معطوف به دیگران یا دیگر مدار

3- کمال گرایی تجویز شده از طرف جامعه یا جامعه مدار

کمال گرایی مثبت و منفی

در ادبیات پژوهش برای متمایز ساختن کمال گرایی مثبت و منفی پیشینه ای طولانی وجود دارد. برای مثال، هاماچک (۱۹۷۸) بیش از سه دهه قبل بين كمال گرایی بهنجار و نورونیک تمایز قائل شد، او معتقد بود که تفاوت اصلی بین این دو نوع، در میزان انعطاف پذیری معیارهای س طح بالا است (کمال گراهای بهنجار نسبت به نوروتیک ها به احتمال بیشتری اجازه میدهند اشتباهات  کوچک در عملکردشان وجود داشته باشد.)  در ابتدا کمال گرایی ناکارآمد به صورت «استبداد  بایدها » توصیف شد (هورنای، ۱۹۵۰). چند سال بعد هالندر (۱۹۹۰) تصویر بالینی زیر را از کمال گرایی ارائه داد:

به علاوه، چندین مقاله تجربی و نظری وجود دارند که ایده شکل های مثبت (یا بهنجار، سالم و سازگارانه) و منفی (یا ناسازگارانه، ناسالم، نورو تیک و بالینی) کمال گرایی را بر اساس ابزارهای سنجشی دیگر بررسی کرده اند . بخش اعظم پژوهش ها از تمایز بین کمال گرایی مثبت و منفی حمایت می کنند. برای مثال چندین پژوهش پیشنهاد می کنند که سازه هایی از قبیل نگرانی های ارزشی ناسازگارانه و كمال گرایی ناکارآمد، نسبت به سازه هایی نظیر تلاش مثبت و کمال گرایی سازگارانه رابطه قوی تری با مشکلات سلامت روان نشانه های وسواسی- اجباری، افسردگی، اضطراب، گرایش به خودکشی، شرم و گناه دارند . البته این کمال گرایی ناسازگارنه است که به احتمال بیشتر درمانجویان را برای درمان سوق می دهد.

علل کمال گرایی

با وجود تنوع بافته های خاص در مطالعات صورت گرفته شواهد قابل توجهی وجود دارد که رفتارهای والدینی ادراک شده (از قبیل انتقاد والدین و کمال گرایی والدین) با کمال گرایی همبستگی دارند. همچنین شواهد دیگری مبنی بر این وجود دارد که کمال گراهای سازگار نسبت به کمال گراهای ناسازگار و افراد غیر کمالگرا، خانواده های متعادل تر، منسجم تر و انعطاف پذیرتری را گزارش می کنند .  اکثر درمانجویان گزارش می کنند که همیشه کمال گرا بوده اند یا اینکه تحت فشار والدین سخت گیر برای دستیابی به موفقیت سوق داده می شدند. آگاهی از این یافته ها می تواند به درمانگر در پاسخ به سؤال های مربوط به ارتباط بين كمال گرایی در والدین و فرزندانشان کمک  کند.
