در کتاب درس هایی از معجزه گفته شده انسان دو وضعیت ذهنی دارد: عشق و ترس.

در این بسیاری کتاب ها عنوان شده که ترس ریشه ی احساسات منفی ماست.این برداشت بسیار ساده ای است که ما نکته ای مفید را برای سنجش احساسات خود به دست آوریم.

عشق و ترس

جین می گوید:((علت عصبانیت من خشم است،نه ترس!)).اجازه دهید برسی کنیم.بیل شوهر جین،به خانه می آید در حالی که بوی الکل و عطر زنانه می دهد.جین با عصبانیت تمام فریاد می زند و ظروف آشپزخانه را به این طرف و آن طرف پرتاب می کند.او فریاد می زند،چون ترسیده بود.او می ترسید از این که بیل دیگر دوستش نداشته باشد.می ترسید که بیل را از دست بدهد!زمانی که عصبانی هستیم در واقع از چیزی ترسیده ایم.

جیم نگران اقساط خانه اش است و می گوید:((زمانی که من نگرانم،یعنی نگرانم و این مسئله هیچ ربطی به ترس ندارد!))اما نگرانی معنی دیگر ترس است.اگر ترس نباشد،چرا باید نگران باشیم؟زمانی که نگران هستیم،در واقع ترسیده ایم.

درباره ی حسادت چه می توان گفت؟حسادت هم نوعی ترس است.شما فکر می کنید که نکند دیگران برتر از شما باشند.زمانی که حسادت می ورزیم نشانه ی این است که ترسیده ایم.

اگر در جست و جوی ترس باشیم رد پای آن را در پشت خشم،حسادت،نگرانی و افسردگی می بینیم.حال این سوال پیش می آید که مفهوم ترس و عشق چه فایده ا دارد.؟جوا این است که آگاهی و شناخت نسبت به آن ها این امکان را می دهد که با خود صادق تر باشیم؛علت بیشتر ناراحتی های ما آن چیزی نیست که پنداشته ایم.برای این که بتوانیم بر ترس های خود غلبه کنیم،لازم است به آن ها اعتراف کنیم.تا زمانی که می گوییم:((تو بی ملاحظه هستی،برای اینکه حسادت مرا تحریک کردی.))به جایی نمی رسیم.اگر در جست و جوی راه چاره هستیم باید از خودمان بپرسیم:((چرا وقت همسرمان با یک غریبه ی زیبا صحبت می کند،می ترسیم؟))ما به جای این که خطای همسرمان را شناسایی کنیم،ترس های خود را می شناسیم.پذیرفتن ترس های خود فرصت خوبی است تا بر آن ها غلبه کنیم.

پذیرش ترس های خود به ما کمک می کند تا احساسات مان را برای اشخاصی که بری مان اهمیت ویژه ای دارند بازگو کنیم.

هنگامی که ترس های خود را بپذیریم،دیگر لزومی ندارد دیگران را خطاکار جلوه دهیم.در اصل می خواهیم بگوییم:((می خواهم بدانی که من ترسیده ام و تو اصلاً تقصیری نداری.)).وقتی بپذیریم که دلیلی برای بی عیب و نقص بودن وجود ندارد،آن زمان است که می توانیم احساسات خود را براساس ترس هایمان بیان کنیم و مطمئناً پاسخ کسانی که دوست شان داریم مثبت خواهد بود.اعتراف به ضعف،موج های بدرفتاری را در هم می شکند.
